Jack's Packing List for The Great Gallivanting

Packing for a trip is one of the most stressful parts of traveling. What do you take? Will you need a rain jacket? Waterproof sack? Long pants, dress shirts, battery packs, workout gear, the list of considerations goes on. The list only gets longer the longer you travel and the more countries you visit, especially if you are hopping between seasons.

For The Great Gallivanting, I would be gone for at least a year. Jo and I had agreed to avoid cold winters, but that was about the extent of our packing considerations. Luckily, we knew nine months in advance that we would be traveling, so I was able to test out my pack job several times before taking off on the world tour.

This list is what I settled on. There have been a few modifications along the way, but I started out with a 98% solution. I cannot express how much stress planning and practicing my pack job in advance has saved me on this trip (it probably helped that I would fly from snowy Colorado to sunny Maui in January or Baja California Sur in March or...).

I would say this is a good starting point for a mens packing list (omen obviously have a few more consideration). Some of it you definitely won't need, and it doesn't include some things that you definitely will for your specific situation.

My packing list is below the picture, but this is what my parents' living room looked like the day before I boarded the plane on my one-way ticket to who knows where.
