Agadir was a place Jack had heard we needed to go. It is a beach town, so Jo was sold immediately. We actually didn't stay in Agadir proper; we went to Tamraght, about 30 minutes or so north of Agadir. We stayed at SurfHostel, a hostel dedicated to, as the name suggests, surfing.

This was a really cool place. They had hostel cats and kittens, rented surf equipment, and offered two meals a day! Plus, the hangout area upstairs really fostered a cool community environment. We both made friends here that we have kept up with as we've moved across the world.

Tamraght is, apparently, and world-renowned surfing detination. Everyday, the beaches were full of surfers of all ages and abilities. We were a bit shocked to see the number of small swim suits we saw on the beach. Where Western tourism dollars come up against social and religous norms, apparently some values are flexible.

Both of us took surf lessons while here. Why not? Jo did it for two days and Jack did it for one. It cost 45 Euros per day, included gear, lessons, lunch, and transport, and was a cool way to spend the day with new friends. The water was cold, but surfing (if that's what you can call our attempts at it) was worth it!

At night, the hostel offered dinner for 10 Euros per person. The owner's wife and their employee made dinner every night for anyone interested. Most of the people paid, so we all had dinner together. It was an awesome family environment full of stories, camaraderie, and laughter. Plus, we got to see how REAL Moroccans pour their tea (from REALLY high up above the cups, and sometimes while balancing on a balancing board!).

We didn't too much outside of surfing, drinking tea, and lounging about while in Tamraght. We purposefully spent a week here just to relax after zipping around Europe for 3.5 months. Jack got a lot of video editing done and uploaded (they had some wicked fast Wifi), Jo put some miles on her Kindle, and we managed to soak in a lot of sun (something we'd been missing since Malaga!). Oh, and did we mention Jack got a new travel crush? Colour us shocked! (Sarcasm...)
